Liefde is een universeel gevoel, maar elk van ons ervaart het anders. Solo – Islands of the Heart verkent het thema liefde op een introspectieve manier die spelers hun eigen ervaringen doet herkennen en daarover laat nadenken.
De wereld is opgedeeld in schiereilanden, waarbij elk eiland een unieke puzzel vertegenwoordigt. Door puzzels op te lossen word je beloond met een slapende totem. Wek deze totem om een vraag over liefde en relaties beantwoord te krijgen.
Net als bij liefde hebben de meeste puzzels niet één enkele oplossing. Met behulp van kisten, elk met andere eigenschappen en gedragingen, kun je een eigen pad bouwen naar de slapende totems op elk eiland.
Natuur en bezinning maken ook een groot onderdeel uit van Solo: pak je camera en leg het moment vast, speel gitaar, voer de dieren of ga op een bankje zitten om na te denken.
