Als die Shiba Inu Hündin Syd nach 10-jähriger Abwesenheit auf Shiba Island zurückkehrt, löst sie eine Reihe von Ereignissen aus und bringt dadurch das Leben der Hunde, die sie hier zurückgelassen hat, durcheinander. Sie nimmt Kontakt zu ihrem alten Freund Max auf und trifft auf dem Weg einen seltsamen Labrador Retriever namens Quei-Li. Die beiden sind ihre einzigen Verbündeten bei ihrem Versuch, die Vergangenheit, derentwegen sie die Insel überhaupt verließ, hinter sich zu lassen.
